I should have been born one year later than I actually was. My reasoning is two-fold. As my three rss subscribers know, I am extremely interested in computers. I'm a programmer and develop independent video games. I have had dreams about writing code. So here are my selfish reason why I believe all Academia is horseshit.
My first reason, they offered Visual BASIC programming classes in my high school. That is until the year after I graduated and then they switched to C++. So, I'd like to say fuck you to my high school. Despite C++ being very prevalent in the industry at the time, they refused to update anything. The Advanced Placement class was Pascal. I even wrote a very persuasive letter to the school administration. I never even got a response. While most final projects in Visual Basic were simple form applications, I handed in a graphical version of the game "Duck Hunt." Yeah so, fuck you high school, I already taught myself C++ anyway.
My second reason is that Game Design/Development as a Bachelors wasn't offered until a year after I fucking graduated college (not including Digipen but I couldn't afford them). Yeah I know, the courses probably suck but sod that, I'd rather have taken Game Design courses than boring Computer Science.
I basically ended up teaching myself everything I know. The classes I had no interest in I struggled in. I was told to shut my mouth and study. The classes I had no problems with (programming) were breezes and not even close to a "challenge." While I am thankful for my education, I am resentful that my interests were considered "niche" until it was too late for me.
Just something I've noticed that really pisses me the hell off. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the angry whiny zilch I've grown up to become.
